Michael Mann is revisiting Miami Vice. The filmmaker has created a new 4K cut of his 2006 crime thriller, titled Miami Vice: Director’s Final Cut, and it will make its world premiere at Beyond Fest 2026 as part of the movie’s 20th anniversary celebration. Mann will be in attendance for the screening, which will take place at Directors Village in Los Angeles.
The new Miami Vice cut arrives not long after Mann revisited another one of his films. Earlier this year, Manhunter received The Final Cut, a new Mann-approved version created for the thriller’s 40th anniversary. That restoration featured a new 4K scan and updated sound work under Mann’s supervision. The theatrical version of Manhunter: The Final Cut began rolling out in the United States in July.
Now Mann is turning his attention to Miami Vice. The film, originally released in 2006, starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as undercover detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Mann wrote and directed the film, which reimagined the characters from his influential 1980s television series as a gritty, atmospheric crime thriller. Beyond Fest has not yet announced the runtime or detailed exactly what Mann has changed for the new Miami Vice cut.
The film is just one of 81 features that will screen at Beyond Fest 2026, which runs from September 23 through October 6 in Los Angeles. The festival’s complete lineup includes 10 world premieres, four North American premieres, seven U.S. premieres, and 28 West Coast premieres.
Presented by MUBI and programmed and produced in partnership with the American Cinematheque, Beyond Fest will take place at the Egyptian Theatre, MUBI Theatre at the Aero, Directors Village, and MUBI Theatre at the Los Feliz 3.
Beyond Fest 2026 highlights
There are some seriously impressive movies and guests packed into this year’s festival.
Robert Eggers will take over the Egyptian Theatre for a day-long celebration of his career, with screenings of The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu. Eggers will also discuss his work and give attendees a first look at exclusive material from his upcoming film Werwulf.
The festival’s other major premieres include Duncan Jones and Matt Berry’s Rogue Trooper, Mike Flanagan’s Carrie, Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Look Back, Sung Kang’s Drifter, Brad Caleb Kane’s Crystal Lake, and Alex Gibney’s Musk.
Horror fans can look forward to the world premiere of V/H/S/Mixtape, featuring segments from RZA, Flying Lotus, Ernest Dickerson, Tobias Forge, David Moreau, and Renee Zhan. Other genre highlights include Victorian Psycho, Drag, River, Half, Pathetic Fallacy, The Swallow, The Cycle, The Spiral, Hallowarrior, Upiro, and Kinki.
The restoration and repertory lineup is just as stacked. Ken Russell’s The Devils will receive a 4K restoration and director’s cut presentation on 35mm, while David Lynch’s Wild at Heart gets a North American Premiere of its 4K restoration. Bong Joon Ho’s The Host and Jackie Chan’s Rumble in the Bronx will also receive new 4K presentations.
There will also be anniversary screenings of Donnie Darko, Green Room, Too Late, Don’t Breathe, and Under the Shadow.
