Might Alison Brie be the next Gale Weathers in the Scream franchise?

I predicted Monday that we’d be getting slapped around with SCREAM 4 tidbits practically every day from now on, and by golly, I was right. So far, at least. (This is three das in a row now.)

“Community” and “Mad Men” actress Alison Brie had occasion to chat with NBC New York yesterday and naturally talk about her role in SCREAM 4 came up. After she delivered the usual plaudits toward the franchise (“As a fan of the franchise there was part of me that was just sort of reeling with the excitement of being a part of this process. “), she gave up a tiny bit of revealing info regarding her character:

“I will just say the character, itself, is very cool and interesting. She sort of looks up to Gale Weathers – Courteney Cox’s character – so she’s along that same sort of vein. And I though, ‘Oh, this is going to be such a fun character to play.’ And it totally was.”

Might that mean we’re seeing the next incarnation of Gale Weathers in Brie? Could very well be, as I’m among those who figure that this is Cox’s last entry…

Weathers has had her share of admirers: in SCREAM 2 Laurie Metcalf’s “Debbie Salt” tried to be a mini-Gale Weathers (although it turned out she was playing a different game entirely), while in part 3 Parker Posey’s obnoxious actress was literally portraying Gale – in the movie-within-the-movie.

We’ll find out what’s really up on APRIL 15th.
