Mila Kunis to play the Wicked Witch in Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great And Powerful!

You couldn’t turn Mila Kunis into a witch if you tried. Then again, Sam Raimi is quite the magician!

Word has surfaced from Vulture that the stunning Kunis (newly single, mind you) has walked away from The Hughes Bros. adaptation of AKIRA, opting to star alongside James Franco in Sam Raimi’s OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL instead. And yup, you guessed it, she’s circling the role of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Said to be a prequel of sorts, OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL tells the story of a circus wrangler who is transported via tornado to the mysterious land of Oz, where he is mistaken for an all-knowing Wizard.

With Kunis’ participation comes the official signing of star of James Franco, who was also attached to star in AKIRA for Albert and Allen Hughes at one point. Those guys are pros though, I’m sure they’ll find equally talented peeps to play in the long gestating Manga adaptation. If Warner Bros. lets them, that is…

Anyway, I know this isn’t the first project you’d expect AITH to follow, but it is Raimi, and the world of Oz is pretty damn eerie to begin with. So, with that in mind, how do you like Mila Kunis in the role immortalized by Margaret Hamilton? Can she pull it off? Will Franco be a credible Wizard? What says you?
