Just the other day, when Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige stated that we can expect to see more iconic celebrities appear as a part of the MCU, I never thought in a million years that former Disney cash cow, pop star, and Gene Simmons Tongue Look-Alike Contest winner, Miley Cyrus, would be a part of that promise.
Huh? Yeah, I know, I'm just as taken aback as you are. Apparently, during an interview with The Huffington Post, actor Dave Bautista, who plays the enthusiastic behemoth Drax, seemingly confirmed that Miley lends her voice to a character featured in Marvel's upcoming sci-fi sequel. While speaking with THP Bautista stated, “I heard that she’s uncredited and a voice somewhere. I know I've heard that." How Bautista and his interviewer even got on to the topic of Cyrus is beyond me, but there you go.
Shortly after the interview wrapped, lifestyle blogger Sarah Ruhlman, who just so happened to attend the Los Angeles press junket for the film, tweeted the following:
Hmm … yup, I'm still struggling with all of this. Although, this news does make a bit of sense when you consider this exchange between Feige and Guardians director James Gunn:
Kevin Feige: Have you told anyone who Mainframe is?
James Gunn: I haven’t told anyone, yeah. Should we?
James Gunn: Oh I think I actually did. I blew it. I told one person.
Kevin Feige: It’ll get out.
Actually, now that I think about it, that conversation doesn't confirm a damn thing. Is all of this Miley Cyrus malarkey the real deal, or perhaps the musings of misinformation? Either way, for those of you who don't know, Mainframe is the name given to an alternate-universes version of Vision, who operates along with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Additionally, Mainframe is the chief operating system of an entire planet, and the guardian of the shield belonging to Captain America. Mainframe later becomes a member of the Galaxy sub-group, the Galactic Guardians. Could Mainframe possibly be a wink at what's to come after James Gunn wraps his plans for a Guardians trilogy?
I don't know, you guys. This is all a bit too much for me to digest on a Friday afternoon. I don't particularly have a personal vendetta against Cyrus, I just find her possible inclusion in the Guardians franchise to be quite odd. Although, there's a small part of me that feels like this makes perfect sense, given Cyrus' penchant for collaborating with high-profile music and Hollywood-types – like that time she joined The Flaming Lips for a cover of "We Are Family".
Either way, I guess we'll find out when GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY arrives in theaters on May 5, 2017.
