Mind Fall thriller from director Mathieu Kassovitz to star Daisy Ridley

Mind Fall

Synapses are firing on all cylinders today now that Daisy Ridley is joining the cast of Mathieu Kassovitz’s Mind Fall thriller. The script for Mind Fall hails from Graham Moore (The Imitation Game) with Kassovitz set to direct.

According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Kassovitz’s Mind Fall thriller takes place in near-future London, where the most sought-after drug on the black market is memories, physically removed from one person’s brain and implanted into another’s using new illegal technology. Top trafficker, Ardis Varnado (Ridley) removes reminiscences from those looking for a quick buck and then resells them to “clients,” who pay top dollar for these “mems” that bind to their subconscious, effectively becoming indistinguishable from their natural memories. Meanwhile, she battles her own addiction to the mems, often struggling to distinguish between the life she’s lived and the memories she’s implanted. So, when she’s accused of murdering one of her clients, Ardis’ instinct is to doubt her own mind. She decides to solve the crime herself, hoping to clear her name but questioning everything she’s ever thought to be real. And as she pulls back the layers, she realizes that she has every reason to do so.

Mind Fall was originally set up at Solstice, but that studio is no longer in business. Wild Bunch International is now in charge of selling the project, which resides at Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8. John Graham will produce, with buyers looking to dig deep into their pockets for this elaborately plotted feature film.

French filmmaker and actor Kassovitz is known for directing La Haine, which focuses on 24 hours in the lives of three young men in the French suburbs the day after a violent riot. Kassovitz also starred in 2001’s Amelie (one of my favorite films of all time) as Amelie’s mysterious love interest Nino Quincampoix. He also directed and starred in the hit series Le Bureau Des Legends, which lasted for five seasons and ended in 2020. Mind Fall will be Kassovitz’s third English-language film after directing Gothika and Babylon AD.

Currently, Ridley has three films in post-production, including The Marsh King’s Daughter, Women in the Castle, and The Inventor, in which she voices the lead character, Marguerite.

What do you think of the concept for Kassovitz’s Mind Fall thriller? Does the term “mems” get under your skin? I’m not going to lie, that abbreviation is driving me up a wall, and the movie isn’t even out yet. Nevertheless, I think Mind Fall sounds cool, and it’ll be fun to see Ridley star in something from the science-fiction genre that isn’t Star Wars or Chaos Walking. Would you be willing to insert “mems” into your brain? What kind of memories would you like to borrow from another person? Let us know in the comments section
