Miramax gets into the TV business with new series based on James Mangold’s Cop Land

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Looks like Miramax is about to dip its big toe in the TV market, teaming up with Starz and developing a one-hour drama based on director James Mangold‘s thriller COP LAND, which starred Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Robert Patrick, Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Rapaport, Noah Emmerich, and Annabella Sciorra. The film was a modest hit, but apparently that’s still enough to push into a series. Mangold, fresh off THE WOLVERINE,  is executive producing with Kathy Conrad, as well as co-writing the pilot.

The show is expected to be a “takeoff on the feature film’s plot of a suburban New Jersey sheriff who slowly discovers the town is a front for mob connections and corruption.”

According to Deadline there will be many such partnerships coming up with Miramax, as the studio is looking to expand its various properties into TV shows with their source stating, “There will be some big announcements in the next 60 days of productions and joint ventures.” Hmm. Interesting, but one has to wonder just what properties they’ll be teaming up for. A while back there was talk of all sorts of shows from Miramax being developed, including the Matt Damon pic ROUNDERS, Kevin Smith‘s CLERKS (which “kinda” happened with the animated series), and Jon Favreau‘s SWINGERS. I think the ship has mostly sailed on those.

What Miramax films would you like to see developed into a series?
