The world has anxiously been awaiting the release of Tom Cruise’s latest series of death-defying stunts, and judging by the first reactions to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One… we’ve got a hell of an action film to look forward to. Although Dead Reckoning is the first part of a two-part story, it sounds as though it holds its own as a solid movie. I can’t wait to see this one on the big screen for myself. Tom Cruise rarely disappoints.

Dynamite, timely story. Excellent new characters. Huge variety of action and a final set piece that ranks top 2-3 all-time for the franchise.

After the insanity of the last few films, #MissionImpossible7 has a tremendous amount to live up to, but one thing I’ll say now in quick reaction format: it does the best job yet of recent “part 1 of 2!!” features in feeling like its own film while setting up for the next half.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 is VERY good, though it lacks the emotion that made MAVERICK great. The climactic train sequence is AWESOME & the entire cast RULES, from my man Tom Cruise to the great Shea Whigham. There are 2 minor issues: Villain backstory & Ethan’s rushed bond w/Grace.

“In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands,” reads the official synopsis. “With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.“

In addition to Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One also features Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Rebecca Ferguson as Ila Faust, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, Frederick Schmidt as Zola Mitsopolis, and Esai Morales as the movie’s main villain. Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney, Cary Elwes, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Charles Parnell, Greg Davis, and Marcin Dorociński also appear.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will hit theaters on July 12th. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two will be released on June 28, 2024. It’s been expected that these movies will serve as a farewell to Ethan Hunt, but Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie has teased to Fandango that the two-parter won’t be the end of the franchise.
