While I love the original 1995 Mortal Kombat film (and in fact saw it last weekend, and I think it still holds up for what it is), one if its most glaring let downs (besides its lack of gore) was not showing us a fight between lifetime rivals Sub-Zero and Scorpion (instead being dismissed in a single line of dialogue from villain Shang Tsung). And although we did end up getting a Sub-Zero vs. Scorpion match-up in the sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation…the less said about that film the better.
Luckily, it seems the new film will oblige us with a proper beat-down between these two! You can check out an extended clip of the fight at the top of the article!
Here's the official synopsis:
A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld in a inter-dimensional fighting tournament that occurs once in a generation. Appearances to be made by Shang Tsung, Goro, Jax Briggs, Sonya Blade, Kano, Scorpion and more fan favorites!
Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat – directed by Simon McQuoid and starring Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim, Josh Lawson, Jessica McNamee, and Hiroyuki Sanada – will get over here to theaters and HBO Max April 23rd!
