Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms animated film coming in August

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

While we wait to see what's going to happen with the live-action Mortal Kombat franchise after the theatrical and HBO Max release of the new movie earlier this year, Warner Bros. is already preparing to bring us another animated Mortal Kombat movie, a sequel to last year's Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (watch it HERE). This one's called Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, and it's set to receive a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and Digital release on August 31st. Check out the cover art below!

Based on the Mortal Kombat video game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, Scorpion's Revenge had the following synopsis:

After the vicious slaughter of his family by stone-cold mercenary Sub-Zero, Hanzo Hasashi is exiled to the torturous Netherrealm. There, in exchange for his servitude to the sinister Quan Chi, he’s given a chance to avenge his family — and is resurrected as Scorpion, a lost soul bent on revenge. Back on Earthrealm, Lord Raiden gathers a team of elite warriors — Shaolin monk Liu Kang, Special Forces officer Sonya Blade and action star Johnny Cage — an unlikely band of heroes with one chance to save humanity. To do this, they must defeat Shang Tsung’s horde of Outworld gladiators and reign over the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms picks up where Scorpion's Revenge left off and

brings the characters to Outworld in order to defend Earthrealm. Meanwhile, Scorpion will seek out the ancient Kamidogu before it falls into the wrong hands and is used to resurrect the One Being, which would essentially wipe out the entire universe.

The voice cast includes Joel McHale as Johnny Cage; Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade; Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang; Patrick Seitz as Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi; Artt Butler as Shang Tsung and Cyrax; Robin Atkin Downes as Shinnok and Reiko; Dave B. Mitchell as Raiden, Kintaro, and Sektor; Ikè Amadi as Jax Briggs and One Being; Grey Griffin as Kitana, Satoshi Hasashi, and Mileena; Fred Tatasciore as Shao Kahn; Matthew Mercer as Stryker and Smoke; Matt Yang King as Kung Lao; Paul Nakauchi as Lin Kuei Grandmaster; Emily O’Brien as Jade; Debra Wilson as D’Vorah; and Bayardo De Murguia as Kuai Liang and Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms was directed by Ethan Spaulding from a script by Jeremy Adams. Ed Boon served as creative consultant.
