If there are any hip-hop fans out there, you’ll know that Mos Def is one of the coolest cats out there. Dude is smooth like sandpaper on the mic. If films are more you’re bag, and you leave hip-hop for the kids on the street, then you’ll know that he’s got some solid skills in front of the camera as well, and he’s steadily rising as one of Hollywood’s most promising stars. We all know he’s got Michel Gondry’s BE KIND, REWIND coming up, but Variety is reporting that he’s just signed on to play the title character in BOBBY ZERO, about “a down-on-his-luck social satirist who gives up his artistic aspirations to work at an advertising agency.” Bobby Zero sounds like some kind of second-rate superhero movie to me, but there’s nothing second rate about Mos Def, so that couldn’t be true. Def will also produce the film which starts production in August.
