Alden Ehrenreich teases a possible return as Han Solo

Solo: A Star Wars Story, Alden Ehrenreich, sequel

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY hit theaters just five months after the release of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, but judging by the film's lackluster box-office, it seemed as though fans weren't quite ready for another STAR WARS adventure. While every other film in Disney's STAR WARS franchise had grossed over $1 billion, SOLO ended its theatrical run with just $392 million worldwide, making it the first box-office bomb in the series.

The commercial failure of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY led to Disney putting a halt to their other spin-off films, which likely would have included one or more SOLO sequels. Although a fan campaign voiced their support for a sequel, it seems unlikely to materialize, but something could be in the works. Alden Ehrenreich spoke with Esquire recently, and although he shot down the chances of a proper sequel, he teased that he does know something about the franchise's future.

No, I don't know anything about [SOLO sequel]. I mean, you know, I think our movie was kind of the last of the conventional-era Star Wars movie release time… I've heard soooome stuff, but nothing concrete.

While a sequel to SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY may be out of the question at this time, Disney's success with The Mandalorian has opened up a new door for smaller stories in the franchise to be told, and I could certainly see Han Solo returning to the screen in the form of a Disney+ series. When asked if he'd be open to reprising the role, Ehrenreich said, "It depends on what it is. It depends on how it's done. It depends if it feels innate to the story." SOLO did leave a number of loose ends which could be continued in a series, including Enfys Nest (Erin Kellyman) and her band of proto-Rebels, Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke) and Darth Maul (Ray Park/Sam Witwer) running Crimson Dawn, and of course, the continuing adventures of Solo (Ehrenreich), Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover).

Would you be down to return to the world of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY? And would you like to see Alden Ehrenreich reprise the role of Han Solo in some form?
