Behold the breathtaking trailer for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s The Revenant

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

If you thought BIRDMAN was something special, you haven’t seen anything yet. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu and stars the astounding Leonardo DiCaprio alongside Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, and Will Poulter. Filmed using only natural light over eight months, this is the project that forced Hardy to drop out of David Ayer‘s SUICIDE SQUAD. Now, we get a chance to see what the movie is all about.

Our own Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey got a first look at the movie a couple of months ago and this new trailer goes a long way to cement his take on the film. Here’s a quick synopsis for the movie.

Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

The requisite talk will now commence that this could finally be the movie that earns Leonardo DiCaprio an Academy Award. All involved here are of the highest order of talent and, once again, Inarritu has done something very different than what you would expect from most directors working today. Could we see back to back Best Picture wins from him? Regardless, THE REVENANT is a must see this Christmas.

THE REVENANT hits theaters on December 25th.
