C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels says he’s wrapped on Star Wars: Episode IX

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Actor Anthony Daniels holds a special distinction in the Star Wars universe of having appeared as C-3PO in every movie in the series, starting with A NEW HOPE in 1977 and moving into the prequels and the new trilogy (and having a non-Threepio cameo in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY). He will, of course, be appearing in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, and he recently took to Twitter to say he’s finished filming on the space epic directed by J.J. Abrams. His message is sweet and with a sense of completeness, giving off a feeling like this could be the last time we see the character for a while.

"Today was 3PO's last on Episode IX. He's sad – so am I. But we're so proud to have worked with such a lovely, talented cast & crew lead by J.J. & Kathy. I'll miss everyone but I'm glad to know that we've been making something exceptional together, to share with the waiting world.”

The movie will feature several series vets returning for more, like Mark Hamill returning as Luke Skywalker and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. In particular Star Wars fashion, we haven’t heard or seen much about the project, with any footage or pictures probably a few months away at the least. What we do know is this entry will wrap up the new trilogy of films that started with THE FORCE AWAKENS in 2015 and continued with THE LAST JEDI in 2017. What role Threepio has in all of it is up in the air, but we do know he’ll have some hard, disapproving opinions to share.
