Chadwick Boseman hunts cop killers in 21 Bridges trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Chadwick Boseman may be the T’Challa, the King of Wakanda during his Marvel time, but in the new thriller 21 BRIDGES, he’s just a cop who has a knack and driving need to hunt down those who kill his fellow cops. From producers Joe and Anthony Russo (AVENGERS: ENDGAME), the movie now has its first trailer which finds Boseman running around Manhattan trying to hunt down the men who – you guessed it – killed several cops for reasons even they may not understand.

Directed by Brian Kirk (GAME OF THRONES, LUTHER) and written by Matthew Carnahan (HOUSE OF LIES) and Adam Mervis, the movie also stars J. K. Simmons, Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch, Keith David and Stephan James.

That cast is what’s most interesting about the movie and could certainly elevate the movie above some typical cop-thriller fare. However, that may be some heavy lifting. Based on this first trailer there’s nothing about the movie that screams originality, following the same procedural elements of the genre with perhaps a few twists thrown in. Who knows, though, it could easily be a propulsive thriller with strong elements and some always-reliable action. Names like the Russos’ and Boseman should give it a little more heft at the box office, which will certainly help given it’s being released in the middle of July, one week before Disney’s THE LION KING.

Here’s the synopsis:

21 BRIDGES follows an embattled NYPD detective (Chadwick Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 21 BRIDGES to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.

21 BRIDGES is in theaters July 12.
