Fargo season 3 teaser reveals one of Ewan McGregor’s two characters

Ewan McGregor Fargo

Much like Hannibal (one of my all-time favourite series), Fargo wound up being a very pleasant surprise. Based upon the Coen brothers film of the same name, a FARGO television series would be enough to make anyone's eyes roll to the back of their head, but creator/writer/director Noah Hawley somehow managed to make the anthology series work magnificently. The upcoming third season looks to be the most ambitious yet, at least from a casting perspective, as it boasts the collective talents of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Carrie Coon, David Thewlis, Michael Stuhlbarg, Shea Whigham, Scoot McNairy and Ewan McGregor in a dual role.

As we slowly approach the debut of Fargo's third season, the brief atmospheric teasers which the series has become known for have begun trickling out. The latest gives us our first look at one of the two characters which Ewan McGregor will be playing in the upcoming season, Ray Stussy, a parole officer who has spent his life living in the shadow of his more successful brother.

The teaser also features Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ray’s girlfriend, Nikki Swango, "a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge," as well as Carrie Coon as Gloria Burgle, "the steady chief of the local police department. A newly divorced mother, Gloria is trying to understand the new world around her, where people connect more intimately with their phones than with the people around them." I'd imagine that it won't be long until we see Ewan McGregor's other role, that of Emmit Stussy, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota.

The official synopsis for Fargo's third season:

Set in 2010, the third installment of Fargo centers on Emmit and his slightly younger brother Ray Stussy (Ewan McGregor). Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Forever living in his more successful brother’s shadow, Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother. Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge.

The third season of FX's Fargo is due to premiere on April 19, 2017.
