Update: Here's the first trailer for DOCTOR SLEEP!

Trying to sell a sequel to one of the greatest horror movies of all time will be very difficult, but if that trailer doesn't get people excited I don't know what will. Setting itself up as its own beast while recalling key moments from the first movie (not using the original scenes, but ones recreated for this movie), the trailer does an excellent job setting up this next chapter as a suspenseful outing with tons of its own surprises and mysteries.

Along with the trailer, the official images dropped, one recalling the classic SHINING scene that hints that maybe Danny is more like his father than he thought.

Original: For fans of Stephen King’s novel “The Shining” and the classic movie adaptation from Stanley Kubrick the upcoming adaptation of King’s sequel novel, “Doctor Sleep”, may be one of the most anticipated movies of the fall season. We all have to wait until November for the movie from director Mike Flanagan (HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE), but the wait for the first footage will soon be over as it was announced today that the first trailer will be dropping today, proceeded by the arrival of the first teaser poster.

The sequel stars Ewan McGregor as a grown-up Danny Torrance, who is struggling with the same issues as his father, Jack, while also coming to terms with psychic powers he calls “the shining.” While the first poster doesn’t give a glimpse at McGregor it does make use of the classic phrase and some backward type that will surely make theatergoers double-back.

Flanagan posted it on his Twitter, confirming that the first trailer would be dropping today. While the movie is a direct adaptation of the 2013 novel, Flanagan said in the past that it would acknowledge the Kubrick film. “I think you do have to acknowledge that. There is no version of the world where I am trying not to acknowledge one of the greatest films ever made. There’s no upside in shying away from that reality.” (via Bloody Disgusting)

The movie also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Bruce Greenwood, Jacob Tremblay, Kyliegh Curran and more. Obviously, we will have much more to talk about when the trailer drops, so be sure to stick around for that. DOCTOR SLEEP is in theaters November 8.
