Game of Thrones, petition, Season 8

WARNING: This article contains major plot spoilers for the final season of GAME OF THRONES. Read at your own peril!

Of all the entitled and obnoxious … Hey everybody, some GAME OF THRONES fans who are less than satisfied with the storytelling of the show's eighth and final season have seen fit to launch an online petition that calls for HBO to remake the entire season, with new writers, of course.

The petition over at Change.org reads:

"David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on," a fan named Dylan D. wrote in his petition on change.org, which currently has just under 27,000 signatures. "This series deserves a final season that makes sense." The ludicrous request established by poster Dylan D. then added, "Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!"

A certain lyric included in Marilyn Manson's "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" comes to mind when I see posts like this. Fans of the shock and awe musician's "Antichrist Superstar" album will know of which line I'm referring to.

Over the past several weeks, many of those tuning in for the show's last hoorah have been left feeling confounded by some of the bold narrative choices executed by GAME OF THRONES showrunners and writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The duo had recently been named as the helmers of Disney's next Star Wars feature, which is set to take place after the events of J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. Among the many complaints about GOT's eighth season, a section of fans are claiming that the final installment of the swords and sorcery drama feels rushed, as Benioff and Weiss attempt to put a big red bow on a myriad of lingering storylines established by the show's eight-year history. Another angle that's left fans feeling divided is the seemingly "out of character" actions of one Daenerys Stormborn, who in a mad act of vengeance razed King's Landing to the ground, reducing its people and property to little else than ashes in the wind.

Regardless of how you feel about the recent events of GAME OF THRONES, requesting that the network remake the entire season to suit your imagined narrative is … well, let's just say it's a bit much. An action such as this is not only an insult to the hard working men and women involved with the show's production, it goes in the face of art as entertainment entirely.

Petition or no, the final episode of GAME OF THRONES will air this Sunday evening on HBO.
