Interview: Scott Adkins on Boyka, Max Cloud and making action flicks

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

For devotees of action cinema, one of the great, unheralded heroes these days is Scott Adkins. Having shown off his action chops as everything from Ryan Reynolds' fight double in X-Men Origins: Wolverine to a reliable baddie in Hong Kong action flicks, Adkins went on to win a major cult following thanks to a whole slew of (really good) DTV action films. These included his signature role as Boyka in the Undisputed films.

His new film, Max Cloud, is a departure in that it's a relatively light-hearted, comedic video-game inspired adventure film that owes more to Scott Pilgrim than Undisputed, but Adkins is seemingly always game to try something different. I was thrilled to get the chance to talk with him about his new film, his career in general, and the challenges that come with making down and dirty action flicks in the streaming era.
