It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia scores record-breaking season 15 renewal

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

FX is putting It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia in the record books! The basic cable network has renewed the fan-favorite comedy series for a 15th season, making it the longest-running live-action comedy series of all-time.

The show previously tied ABC’s The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series with 14 seasons but with this current renewal, It's Always Sunny gets to claim the crown. The news of the re-up comes just as It’s Always Sunny creator, executive producer, and star Rob McElhenney revealed last month that writing on Season 15 of the FX series had begun. If it's up to McElhenney he says that “we’re going to keep doing it forever if people keep watching.”

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia made a name for itself by becoming the first comedy hit for FX. The series is a significant gainer in cable Live+7 ratings and since its move to the more comedy centric offshoot FXX, the show has become the face of comedy for the network. Adding to its popularity with viewers, It's Always Sunny is a hit with critics with "Entertainment Weekly" placing it at number 7 on their list of the 26 Best Cult TV Shows Ever.

Starring McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia follows the exploits of "The Gang", a group of narcissistic friends who run the Irish bar Paddy's Pub in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I don't consistently watch the show but when I catch it in passing it's always good for a quick laugh and I especially like the cast chemistry on the show because their banter is what makes the show stand out.

Do YOU watch It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? Happy to see it make a record-breaking return?
