John Wick director Chad Stahelski to helm Highlander reboot

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

How about those JOHN WICK directors?!? It hasn’t taken studios but a minute to scoop up both directors for various projects, so here’s hoping the two produce material just as well separately as they do together! For those of you playing catch-up, 2014’s JOHN WICK was directed by both Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. Stahelski went on to direct JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2, while Leitch is currently in post-production on THE COLDEST CITY with Charlize Theron and James McAvoy, before jumping into DEADPOOL 2. So what’s next for Stahelski? A reboot of HIGHLANDER!

Chad Stahelski on HIGHLANDER:

I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school. Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.

As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is currently looking for writers to work with Stahelski on the project. They’ve been trying to get a HIGHLANDER reboot off the ground for almost a decade now, and if Stahelski is serious about the project, it looks like Lionsgate has finally found their man. The story of an immortal Scottish swordsman who must confront the last of his opponents is ripe for a remake, so I hope this one comes to fruition!
