Michael Fassbender wants to contribute to the story of X-Men: Apocalypse

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As Michael Fassbender's career continues, he's becoming more and more invested in his work. Aside from starring in, he'll also be producing the upcoming video game adaptation of ASSASSIN'S CREED that's to be helmed by Justin Kurzel, on which he recently worked with on MACBETH. While he wont have so strong a behind-the-scenes role in regards to X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, he did speak with writer Simon Kinberg in relation to his character of Magneto and what he'd like to explore.

Whether or not he's excited to go up against Apocalypse:

Yeah, I mean, I haven't got a script or anything yet, but I'm always excited to see where Simon Kinberg's going to go with the next X-Men. X-Men's been great to me and allowed me to do so much, including films like FRANK. I've had a lot of fun with the cast and with the character, Magneto. So I had a good chat with Simon [Kinberg] when we were on our way to Moscow, and we tossed around some ideas on the plane over there. So I'm pretty excited to see how it all comes together.

In regards to what Fassbender wants from his character in APOCALYPSE:

Well, I can't really tell you. I want it to be in the next one! I've had these conversations with Simon and there's a certain strand of his story that I think is pretty interesting and would like to explore, if we could.

Personally I love it when actors really take a character by the horns (or helmet, in this case) and strive to push him to new heights. While actors may not always know what's best for the story, it does show a certain level of attachment or commitment to the character. There are some actors who dismiss comic book films as nothing more than 2 hours of entertainment, but it's nice to see that the X-Men franchise has players like Hugh Jackman and Michael Fassbender who really respect the characters and story.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will hit cinemas on May 27, 2016 but you can (kinda) see Fassbender in the indie film FRANK, which will see a limited US release on August 22, 2014.

I can't wait to see what Fassbender does with MACBETH!
