Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman and Frank Grillo are teaming up to lead Daniel Adams' (THE GOLDEN BOYS, THE LIGHTKEEPER) upcoming action film PANAMA. Daniels co-wrote the screenplay with William R. Barber, which is inspired by true events. Producing the project are Michelle Chydzik Sowa and Michelle Reihel, with cameras expected to begin rolling on the film this November.

Taking place in Panama cira 1989, the pic centers on James Becker (Grillo), a rugged, decorated ex-marine, who is sent undercover by his former commander Stark (Freeman) to execute a high-value deal with untrustworthy adversaries. While navigating through the chaos of the local civil war, Becker must fight assassins, court femmes fatales and negotiate with the enemy in order to complete his mission. With Stark always by his side, Becker perseveres against all odds in hopes of making it home alive. (via Deadline)

Grillo recently completed working on BOSS LEVEL for director Joe Carnahan. The upcoming action sci-fi thriller focuses on a retired special forces officer who becomes trapped in a never ending time loop on the day of his death. The film stars Mel Gibson, Annabelle Wallis, Naomi Watts, Michelle Yeoh, and Ken Jeong, with Grillo set to play the role of Roy Pulver for the film.

As for Freeman, the silky-voiced actor has recently wrapped on both THE HITMAN'S WIFE'S BODYGUARD and THE COMEBACK TRAIL. The first is a sequel to the 2017 smash starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson as an unlikely pair trying to survive a deadly situation as well as each other. Salma Hayek, who played Sonia Kincaid, the wife of Jackson's Darius Kincaid, in the original, is expected to play a larger role in the sequel. Meanwhile, THE COMEBACK TRAIL hails from director George Gallo and centers on two movie producers who owe money to the mob and set up their aging movie star for an insurance scam to try and save themselves. Unfortunately, they wind up getting more than they ever imagined. While Freeman's character in the film has yet to be named, we do know that Robert De Niro, Emile Hirsch, Tommy Lee Jones, Zach Braff and Eddie Griffin also star.

We'll be sure to bring you more details related to PANAMA as the project develops.
