Here's a project which I'd forgotten about — Leigh Janiak's FEAR STREET trilogy based on the novels by R.L. Stine. Production on the three interconnected film wrapped up last year and the plan was to release each film a month apart theatrically this summer, but obviously COVID-19 had other plans. According to Deadline, the FEAR STREET trilogy has found a new home at Netflix and the streaming service is hoping to release the trilogy next summer in what they're billing The Summer of Fear.

The "Fear Street" novels took place in the fictional city of Shadyside and tended to skew a little older than the "Goosebumps" series. While paranormal elements were still present, many of the "Fear Street" tales were straight murder mysteries which featured more blood and gore than you'd find in "Goosebumps". Chernin Entertainment, who produced the FEAR STREET films, originally had a deal with 20th Century Fox prior to its acquisition by Disney, but signed a first-look deal with Netflix in April, so the move certainly makes sense. The first installment of the FEAR STREET trilogy begins in 1994, with a group of teens discovering that a terrifying series of events in their hometown of Shadyside, Ohio might be connected; Even worse, the teens might be the next targets. Here's what we know about the next two films in the trilogy:

FEAR STREET 2: In 1978, Camp Nightwing is divided by the campers and counselors who hail from the of prosperous town of Sunnyvale and the campers and maintenance staffers from the downtrodden town of Shadyside, but when horrors from their towns shared history come alive, they must band together to solve a terrifying mystery before it’s too late.

FEAR STREET 3: In 1666, a colonial town is gripped by a hysterical witch-hunt that has deadly consequences for centuries to come, and it’s up to teenagers in 1994 to try and finally put an end to their town’s curse, before it’s too late.

The FEAR STREET trilogy will likely premiere on Netflix in Summer 2021, with each film debuting a month apart.
