Between JOHN WICK 3 dominating the box office, his voice role in the upcoming smash TOY STORY 4 and poking all sorts of fun at his persona in ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE, 2019 is really becoming the year of Keanu Reeves (if we ignore REPLICAS). The very good and excellent times may only be getting started though, as a new report has surfaced claiming that Reeves is in talks for Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster, THE ETERNALS, which would finally bring the iconic star into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The report comes from MCU Cosmic where it’s being reported that Reeves is in the stages of the negotiations to have a role in the upcoming movie, which has already secured stars Angelina Jolie as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ma Dong-seok. No word on who Reeves would play, but the movie centers on a group of god-like beings who were created by the Celestials. The movie is being directed by Chloe Zhao (THE RIDER) with Matthew and Ryan Firpo on the script.

This wouldn’t be the first time Reeves had landed a role in an MCU movie. The actor was originally set to play the character Yonn-Rogg in this year’s CAPTAIN MARVEL, all before scheduling conflicts forced him to drop out with Jude Law taking over the part. Chances are Marvel has been keeping him in mind for another project, and thought that casting him as a god among mortals was a good fit.

Of course, this casting has not been confirmed, and chances are even if/when it is Marvel will keep things close to the chest and not reveal anything more about who he is playing. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige confirmed THE ETERNALS last year, which along with the stories for the last two AVENGERS movies and CAPTAIN MARVEL, is evidence that they're looking to reach out further into the cosmos of the Marvel universe.

If true, how awesome is this movie turning out? You got Jolie, Madden and now Reeves? That's quite the cast for a movie that should be epic purely on storytelling and visual levels, given the nature and origin of the characters. Reeves has always had this ethereal presence about him, so casting him as an Eternal seems like a perfect way to bring him into this massive movie landscape. If the Marvel movies have been lacking anything, it's been a character who can rock an all-black wardrobe of crushed velvets or fine polyester.
