Star Wars: Episode VIII officially titled The Last Jedi

Star Wars The Last Jedi

The speculation ends today on what might have been the title for director Rian Johnson's chapter in the Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII. Lucafilm released the following bit of information on StarWars.com, of which I've included for you in full. Come December 15th, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI hits theaters!

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

And you thought that this would be just another Monday! "The Last Jedi" is a seemingly straightforward title, albeit a good one. We could assume that it's talking about Luke Skywalker, although the term "Jedi" can refer to more than one person. Will Rey become a Jedi by the film's end? Are there more Jedi to be discovered throughout the galaxy? We'll have to wait until December to find out! In the meantime, click on the banner above to check out a poster variation of the new title!

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will open in theaters on December 15, 2017.
