Surf’s Up is getting a sequel, complete with WWE Superstars

It’s been 10 years since SURF’S UP was first released in theaters, and, if you had held your breath waiting for a sequel to happen… well, you’d be dead by now. However, we’ll pay tribute to your fallen soul next year right around the 10th Anniversary of the original, as today a follow-up to SURF’S UP was announced for 2017 that’ll see Sony Pictures Animation teaming up with WWE Studios in order to bring WWE Superstars into the fold in surfing penguin form.

No, I am not making this up.

Yes, this is really happening.

SURF’S UP 2: WAVEMANIA will once again follow Cody Maverick as he seeks out a new challenge. This time, it’s searching for the biggest waves in the world at a mysterious surf spot known as The Trenches. He’ll convince a crew known as The Hang 5 to join him on this voyage, and where it gets super weird is that the Five is made up of John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, Vince McMahon and WWE Diva Paige. The characters will be voiced by them and are even animated to look like them. There is a penguin that looks like The Undertaker, complete with coffin surfboard.

Oh, to be intoxicated and/or inebriated and watch this thing must be amazing.

Henry Yu, who served under Genndy Tartakovsky as story artist on both HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA films will be making his directorial debut, and… What a strange project to get out of the gate on your own with.

This one is going straight to home release via Sony Picture Home Entertainment which is probably right on target. On your couch wasted is the perfect demographic for this to hit… oh, and kids, too.
