The 2011 Golden Schmoes nominees are announced!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The official nominations for the 11th
Annual JoBlo.com Movie Awards (aka the Golden Schmoes)
have been
compiled and the official voting will begin on Monday (February 13 – 23),
so sharpen
your fingernails and get ready to vote for your faves! The winners
will be announced on Friday, February 24th, just two days before those darn
“Oscar thingies” are handed out.

Even though the record for the most nominations ever had been broken
over the past 2 years (INCEPTION had 19 nominations in 2010, which had beaten
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS’ record from the previous year with 18 nominations, which
had beaten THE DARK KNIGHT’s original record of 16 nominations), no record was
broken this year, but it feels like a much better balanced round of nominees
this time around with DRIVE leading the pack with 15 nominations,
followed by Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO with 11 noms and
the surprising RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES with 11 nominations as
well. Who would have thought that at the beginning of the year, eh?

The four other “big flicks” to
receive major nominations were X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, SUPER 8, MISSION
IMPOSSIBLE 4
and BRIDESMAIDS. Other films with multiple
nominations include WARRIOR (4), ATTACK OF THE BLOCK (4) and
50/50 (4). SUCKER PUNCH also received 4 nominations but two
of those categories were not flattering nominations (Most Disappointing
and Worst Movie of the Year).

Last year, INCEPTION led the nominations with 19 (although it ended up
winning only X), with THE SOCIAL NETWORK and BLACK SWAN both with 12
nominations each.

MOST NOMINATIONS
Drive

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

the Apes (10 nominations)
X-Men: First Class (7 nominations)

Remember that
each person can vote only once for the Golden Schmoes, but you needn’t be a
member of our site to do so. We will also be running our 12TH
ANNUAL OSCAR PREDICTION CONTEST
this year, so stay tuned for that as well.
See
previous years’ GOLDEN SCHMOES winners below, along with this year’s
