The Witcher: Blood Origin prequel limited series on the way from Netflix

“The Witcher” has been a runaway hit for Netflix, with the streamer estimating that over 76 million viewers streamed it the first month alone, so it’s no surprise a lot more is on the way. In addition to season two, which is set to resume production in August after being shut down due to Covid-19, an animated spin-off is due, and now Netflix is announcing a prequel series, “The Witcher: Blood Origin” is in the works.

Set to be a six-episode, live-action limited event, Deadline reports it will be set in “an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, the show will chart the origins of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

The series is set to shoot in the UK, but filming dates haven’t been announced, nor has any cast, although I presume that given the setting, Henry Cavill will not be involved. Confession – I’ve yet to watch any of “The Witcher” although I must say I’m curious. It seems like Netflix has got themselves a major franchise here, and with the gaming saga as popular as ever (“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” was a smash – likely thanks in large part to the show), it looks like this is a franchise that could go on for a long time. I guess I’ve got some binge-watching to do!
