The Marvel world was left a bit shaken when James Gunn was fired from directing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3 last summer, but after months and months of speculation, he was reinstated by Disney last month in a surprise announcement. Now with things getting back on track the stars of the series are sharing their excitement, with Gamora herself, Zoe Saldana, taking some time during a recent interview to talk about how proud she is of not only her GUARDIANS director but of the company for bringing him back on.

Saldana was speaking with Entertainment Tonight while promoting her new movie THE MISSING LINK when she was asked by Ash Crossan about Gunn being reinstated as the threequel’s director.

"I'm proud of him. I'm happy that he's coming back. I'm so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important."

Gunn was let go from the movie by Disney back in July after a series of inappropriate jokes of his were unearthed and reposted online, causing some backlash. While it seemed clear at first that Disney would not be reversing their decision, the cast of the series, including Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and more signed their names to an open letter urging the company to reconsider their move. Even fans did their part to try and get Gunn back on board, but after eight months of nothing budging news broke last month that Gunn was back in the saddle, with the director posting on social media, “I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months.”

He continued, “I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. I deeply appreciate Disney ‘s decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all.”

While Gunn is back in the director's chair the movie is still a bit delayed (once planned for a summer 2020 release) given that he accepted the directing duties on THE SUICIDE SQUAD for DC and Warner Bros. after being let go from GUARDIANS. He will finish that movie before tackling the latter, perhaps having it ready for a 2021 release. In the meantime, Gunn's name is attached as producer to the new movie BRIGHTBURN, which is in theaters May 24.
