Statham’s Mutiny gets rated
A few months ago, Lionsgate had released the new trailer for the new Jason Statham actioner Mutiny. This time, Statham collaborates with Plane director Jean-François Richet and is joined in the cast by Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller and Adrian Lester.
In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run. Reed boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss’ death, only to discover an international conspiracy.
The MPA has just released their latest bulletin of freshly rated films and Mutiny is among them. It may come as no surprise that the action film has been Rated R for strong/bloody violence, and language.
Mutiny on the Bounty
Lionsgate, MadRiver, and Punch Palace are teaming up to release the film in theaters. Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis (Plane, The Contractor) wrote the screenplay for Mutiny. Statham produces through his newly-founded Punch Palace Productions, with Marc Butan via his MadRiver Pictures studio.
“Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane,” said Lauren Bixby, SVP of co-productions and Acquisitions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “We can’t wait to see that creative energy once again as we bring Mutiny to life,” she added.
Mutiny sails into theaters on August 21.
Jason Statham plays Jason Statham
Recently, it was reported that the action star and The Fall Guy and Bullet Train director David Leitch will collaborate on a project that sounds like a fourth-wall-breaking project like Nicolas Cage’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, with a Statham flavor. Plot details for the film, titled Jason Statham Stole My Bike, are being kept tightly under wraps, but the project will reportedly feature the actor “in the role of a lifetime, playing global action superstar Jason Statham.” The film is being mounted with a budget north of $80 million and will feature multiple large-scale action set pieces. The screenplay comes from Alison Flierl (BoJack Horseman), with production expected to begin in May.
In addition to directing, Leitch will produce alongside Kelly McCormick for 87 North. Statham will produce through Punch Palace Productions, with John Friedberg producing for Black Bear, and Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin producing for Beryllium Entertainment.
