Nathan Fillion has played Guy Gardner in Superman, the second season of Peacemaker, and the upcoming Lanterns series, and now Entertainment Weekly reports that he will once again reprise the role for the Mister Miracle animated series.
However, it’s not all sunshine and unicorn farts as DC Studios has also put two TV projects on the back burner. More on that later.
The animated Mister Miracle series will be inspired by the acclaimed miniseries written by Tom King and illustrated by Mitch Gerads, with King serving as showrunner and executive producer. In a statement to EW, King said, “We brought Nathan into Mister Miracle’s show, and doing that, it’s just so wonderful. He brings that energy to every aspect of it. And you would think it would be different tonally from [Lanterns], but it blends because that’s who Guy is. He’s that guy who is over the top. We all know that guy who’s a little bit like that.“
The new series follows Scott Free, the world’s greatest escape artist, known to the world as Mister Miracle, whose perfect life with his warrior wife Big Barda falls apart when their two home worlds — Apocalypse and New Genesis — go to war and Scott’s cruel adoptive father Darkseid appears to have captured the ultimate weapon, the Anti-Life Equation, that will give him total dominance over the universe.
Although Mister Miracle is moving forward, two other DC projects have been pushed back. The Amanda Waller series starring Viola Davis, one of the first DC shows announced, is no longer a priority for the studio. However, EW states that the project still remains in development.
Additionally, Paradise Lost, the Wonder Woman prequel about the Amazons of Themyscira, has also been put on the back burner. Although, like Waller, it hasn’t been scrapped entirely and could return in the future.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn previously said that no project would move forward until it was ready, and after Supergirl‘s disappointing performance this summer, I’d imagine the studio is reassessing which projects stand the best chance of being successful.
