Nathan Fillion The Rookie

After charming audiences for eight seasons as best-selling mystery novelist Richard Castle on ABC's Castle, it seems that Nathan Fillion will be making a return to the genre of light-crime-drama with The Rookie. Deadline reports that ABC has snagged the project and given it a straight-to-series order, which will be penned by Castle executive producer/co-showrunner Alexi Hawley.

Inspired by a true story, The Rookie will star Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department. "At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop.  Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count." As Castle was one of ABC's most successful procedural dramas of the past decade, it's no surprise that they'd want another similar series to add to their schedule.

Since Castle came to an end over a year ago, Nathan Fillion has kept busy with a variety of television projects, including a recurring role on Modern Family and guest-spots on Rick and Morty, Santa Clarita Diet, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Big Mouth. You've also heard Fillion on the big-screen in CARS 3, in which he voiced Sterling, a rich business car who runs the elite training facility Rust-eze Racing Center. Nathan Fillion also almost made an appearance in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 before James Gunn was forced to cut the scene. Before he gets back to the business of solving crimes with a sly smirk, we'll next see Nathan Fillion in the second season of Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events in early 2018, where he will be playing Jacques Snicket, the brother of Lemony Snicket.
