Neill Blomkamp clarifies Alien comments, says he won’t ignore 3 and 4

A handful of days ago, the internet lost its collective shit when Neill Blomkamp made comments that seemed to indicate his new ALIEN sequel would be a follow-up to ALIENS, hence ignoring the events of ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: RESURRECTION. While those films aren’t necessarily beloved, it’s tough to contemplate a new movie that pays them no mind. Those of you who felt like it was an injustice loudly made your opinions known, and it’s obvious Blomkamp has heard the outcry.

In a recent, brief interview with AlloCine, Blomkamp clarified his initial comments.

My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal… I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection. I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.”

I think it’s clear Blomkamp simply has greater affection for the first two movies than he does the second two (who among us can’t say the same?); it’s only natural his ALIEN installment would have more in common with those movies than with Fincher’s and Jeunet’s. But if we’re being honest, all this talk is still so very premature; it’s hard to get too worked up about these early reports no matter what side of the fence you’re on.
