Neill Blomkamp explains Alien concept art; new movie “may happen”

Alien Neill Blomkamp

Last month DISTRICT 9 and CHAPPIE director Neill Blomkamp shared some very awesome looking ALIEN concept art, and although Blomkamp said it was something he was working on, it didn't sound like the project was moving forward. The director also said the artwork had nothing to do with FOX, and the studio "didn't really even know" what he was up to.

But maybe (just maybe) there is an ALIEN movie in Neill Blomkamp's future. While explaining to Collider why he created the concept art and posted it online, Blomkamp said directing a new ALIEN flick could actually happen.

There was a reason. I wanted to make that film. I still may make that film. [Laughs] It may happen. But I did it on my own time. Like when Chappie was winding down in post and I had available time, I started to work on it. It was also from talking to Sigourney [Weaver] during the making of this. I mean, I asked her about Alien all the time. Alien and Aliens are my favorite films. So I genuinely wanted to make that film, I came up with the story, I came up with way more art than I put out and I never officially spoke to Fox about it, but Fox wanted to make it. So, I kind of touched on it and I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know if I was just gonna go leave directing for a whole bunch of time and then I was like, ‘I might as well put some art out.’ But I may make it. I don’t know. That’s where it stands.

Neill Blomkamp helming an ALIEN movie might be a possibility, but it's not as if the project has received the green light from FOX, and the studio could always just use his ideas (for a small fee, of course), with someone else directing. Are you down for a Neill Blomkamp directed ALIEN film?

Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE is set to be released on March 6, 2015.
