Streaming television service Netflix has scooped up another high-profile flick, this time of the science-fiction variety. THE DISCOVERY stars Jason Segel, Rooney Mara and Robert Redford in a love story that takes place in a world where an afterlife has been scientifically verified, and now millions of people are taking their own lives in the hopes that committing suicide is akin to pushing the reset button. Redford will play the man who makes this scientific discovery, while Segel will portray his son and Mara the woman that Segel’s character falls in love with. THE DISCOVERY will hit Netflix and select theaters in 2017.
The movie sounds pretty fascinating and amounts to another great move by Netflix to bring their users some exciting exclusive content. I’m not going to pretend I love every movie Netflix exclusively distributes (looking at you, Adam Sandler flicks) but they certainly know what people want to see. In case you need a refresher, Netflix will also be debuting THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CARING with Paul Rudd on June 24th, TALLULAH with Ellen Page on July29th, THE LITTLE PRINCE on August 5th, and WAR MACHINE with Brad Pitt this fall. I can’t wait to see what else they’ll be bringing us in 2017!
