MAKING A MURDERER became a cultural phenomenon when it hit Netflix back in 2015, and even three years later people are still talking about the stirring true crime docuseries. Naturally, people want to know what comes next for the series’ subjects – Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey – and in an announcement today Netflix revealed that it will give the people what they want in a few weeks on October 19.  Better get your binging caps on!

In MAKING A MURDERED PART 2, Filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos return to cover the lives of Avery and Dassey, who remain in prison but are fighting for release, maintaining innocence in the killing of Teresa Halbach. As well, viewers will be introduced to Kathleen Zellner, a postconviction lawyer who is trying to win Avery his freedom.

Ricciardi and Demos put out a statement regarding PART 2, sharing their excitement about what the follow-up will reveal to viewers.

“Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice. Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”

The show was an instant success with critics and audiences, and it went on to win four Emmys, including a win for Ricciardi and Demos for Outstanding Direction for Nonfiction Programming, with the series itself winning Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.
