New Detective Pikachu trailer welcomes you to the wonderful world of Pokemon

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I doubt that when Bob Thiele (as "George Douglas") and George David Weiss wrote the 1967 pop ballad "What a Wonderful World" for Louis Armstrong that the duo would have ever imagined their classic tune as part of the new trailer for POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU. Then again, there are musician Pokemon trainers, so perhaps an alternate and wonderful world in which Armstrong performs a duet alongside Moletta does exist. I can see it all now, Armstrong puffing away on his trumpet while Moletta casts Relic Song, evolving into her Pirouette Forme for the big finish.

Today Warner Bros. has debuted a new "Earth Day" trailer for POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU that takes us on a calming tour through Ryme City, where many of your favorite Pokemon are enjoying the many wonders of Mother Nature. In addition to giving us a great look at many of the film's pocket monsters, the new trailer also comes armed with the "Warm Fuzzies" move set, which includes the attacks: "Hug", "Snuggle", "Comfort", and "Smile."

Starring Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu, the upcoming big screen adventure from director Rob Letterman also features Justice Smith as Tim, and Kathryn Newton as Lucy a junior reporter following her first big story; as well as Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, and Rita Ora, with Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy. Dan Hernandez & Benji Samit and Nicole Perlman wrote the story, which Dan Hernandez & Benji Samit and Rob Letterman and Derek Connolly then transformed into a rousing screenplay, based on the “Detective Pikachu” video game developed by Creatures Inc.

POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU will arrive in theaters on May 10th.
