Blumhouse's new HALLOWEEN sequel parallels HALLOWEEN H20 in several ways. It marks original heroine Jamie Lee Curtis's return to the franchise after several years, ignores the events of previous HALLOWEEN movies, and apparently at some point has Curtis's character Laurie Strode stalking iconic slasher Michael Myers while calling out his name. Now director David Gordon Green has revealed that there's another H20/Blumhouse similarity to the list: both feature a vocal performance by someone who is meant to sound like Donald Pleasence, the actor who played Myers' Ahab Dr. Loomis in five of the first six HALLOWEEN movies (he only missed out on HALLOWEEN III).
Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment, Green said,
We have a Donald Pleasence soundalike. Because obviously he’s no longer with us, but having someone that could mimic his voice was a fun challenge. And we nailed it, I think. If I do say so myself."
H20 had a soundalike repeating Loomis lines during the opening title sequence. It will be interesting to hear what dialogue this soundalike has delivered – and to evaluate just how much they do sound like Pleasence.
Green added that there's also
a vocal cameo you may or may not notice till the end credits."
So when you watch the new HALLOWEEN, listen for that one.
Green wrote the screenplay for the new film with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. Their story, which only acknowledges the events of the first HALLOWEEN, brings Curtis back as
Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Curtis is joined in the cast by Judy Greer as Laurie's daughter Karen; Andi Matichak as Karen's daughter Allyson; Miles Robbins, Virginia Gardner, Dylan Arnold, and Drew Scheid as Allyson's Haddonfield High classmates; Will Patton and Rob Niter as police officers; Rhian Rees as a character named Dana; and Diva Tyler as a caretaker. Original Michael Myers performer Nick Castle and stuntman James Jude Courtney both wore the mask of the iconic slasher this time around.
John Carpenter served as executive producer on the film and is composing the score with Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.
HALLOWEEN is scheduled to reach theatres on October 19th.
