New Independence Day: Resurgence video wants you to enlist

There's some interesting stuff coming out of the viral video section of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE's marketing department. Last week, we saw a video designed to come off as a United World News broadcast marking the 20th anniversary of the events of INDEPENDENCE DAY, the devastating alien invasion known as The War of 1996.

Now we have a new viral video that serves as a recruitment video for Earth Space Defense, the multinational military force that was formed with the intention of fending off any future attacks from space. A website has even been created where you can join the ESD (and complete missions), with the fitting URL of JoinESD.com.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE features a mixture of returning and new cast members, and front and center in this video are a pair of ID4 newbies: Sela Ward as the U.S. President and William Fichtner as a top military general. When Fichtner signed on, it was said that he had made a three picture deal and that his role was expected to be expanded in sequels, so you might want to get ready to see a lot of this guy.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, who also worked on the screenplay with Dean Devlin, James Vanderbilt, James A. Woods, and Nicolas Wright, this sequel twenty years in the making has the following synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Ward and Fichtner's co-stars include Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei, and Jessie Usher.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE is set for a June 24, 2016 release.
