William Fichtner signs on for Independence Day 2 and two more sequels

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

When William Fichtner signs on to a project, it gives that project's quotient of awesomeness an immediate and significant boost. He just did that for INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, coming on board the long-awaited alien invasion sequel to play a lead role as a top general.

What makes this news even better is that Fichtner has actually signed on for three INDEPENDENCE DAY movies, and if/when the next two sequels are made, his character is expected to have an even larger role in them.

Fichtner joins a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei, Jessie Usher, and Sela Ward.

The original INDEPENDENCE DAY team of director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin are behind INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, which is currently filming (a fact proven by this picture of Devlin and Goldblum on set together) for a June 24, 2016 release.

The sequel's President, Sela Ward
