New Jack Ryan deets

JoBloJoBlo

Our own silky smooth Dave Davis was right back in October when he speculated that the new Jack Ryan film wouldn’t be based on any of the Tom Clancy novels, but rather be an original story.

Earlier yesterday, while doing press for INVICTUS, producer Mace Neufield confirmed just that and went into details on what to expect from the re-rebooted franchise. From ComingSoon.net:

“We pick him up when he’s on Wall Street,” says Neufeld. “The Jack Ryan movies have never been action films. They’re kind of ‘thinking man’s thrillers.’ Jack is referred to as a ‘water-walker’ because of his ability to jump ahead to conclusions. That’s very big in all the Jack Ryan films and that’s how we want to portray him. He’s a teacher. He’s a historian. He’s a linguist. And he’s really smart.”

A first draft by screenwriter Hossein Amini has just been completed with a rewrite by Adam Cozad set to begin soon. The yet-to-be-titled Jack Ryan project is currently looking at a 2012 release.
