With all the high concept tent-pole outings the summer has to offer, it’s kind of easy to lose sight of smaller, cooler independent flicks coming out in the next few months. [REC] 2 is an example that instantly comes to mind, with Michael Winterbottom’s divisive thriller THE KILLER INSIDE ME in the same camp. Well, the latter film finally gets a limited theatrical release beginning June 18th, and to make damn sure we’re all aware of it, Mars Films (France) films has just unwrapped a creepy new one-sheet for the film. In U.K. theaters as early as tomorrow (June 8th), THE KILLER INSIDE ME has been lambasted for its brutal depiction of violence towards women, using its press wisely since Sundance to garner some much needed word of mouth. Here’s the newest synopsis for the flick (courtesy of the Official Site):
Based on the novel by legendary pulp writer Jim Thompson, Michael Winterbottom’s THE KILLER INSIDE ME tells the story of handsome, charming, unassuming small town sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford.
Lou has a bunch of problems. Woman problems. Law enforcement problems. An ever-growing pile of murder victims in his West Texas jurisdiction. And the fact he’s a sadist, a psychopath, a killer. Suspicion begins to fall on Lou, and it’s only a matter of time before he runs out of alibis. But in Thompson’s savage, bleak, blacker than noir universe nothing is ever what it seems, and it turns out that the investigators pursuing him might have a secret of their own.
Casey Affleck, looking disturbed in the new poster, stars in the flick. He’s surrounded by Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Simon Baker, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman, Brent Briscoe, Elias Koteas, Tom Bower, Matthew Maher, Liam Aiken and Jay R. Ferguson.
