Some new details have emerged about the upcoming BREAKING BAD spin-off BETTER CALL SAUL that will shed some more light on what exactly the series will be about. Entertainment Weekly shared the details and a pair of new photos from the series.

As previously indicated, BETTER CALL SAUL will be primarily set in 2002, six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Rumors have been circling that there would be flashforwards in the series to after the events of BREAKING BAD, but that has yet to be confirmed. We do now know that the series will be about how Saul becomes Saul with the show starting with Bob Odenkirk‘s character going by his real name of Jimmy McGill as he learns how to be the sleaziest lawyer in New Mexico.

The cast will include Jonathan Banks reprising his fan favorite role of Mike Ehrmentraut along with Michael McKean as Saul’s brother Chuck McGill. Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, and Michael Mando will also appear as Kim, Hamlin, and Nacho. How they all fit into the plot remains to be seen, but we do now have a look at McKean in the series.

Some fans are not excited about BETTER CALL SAUL, but any way to continue the top notch storytelling of BREAKING BAD is fine with me, even if it doesn’t directly connect to that series. In fact, I would rather leave that story alone and just enhance the supporting players. AMC must have a lot of confidence as they have already greenlit a second season of the series.

BETTER CALL SAUL premieres in 2015 on AMC.
