Back in August, Jared brought the news that the new [REC] flicks that are being prepared had already been snatched up for distribution in France. Seeing how the flicks are already immensely popular internationally, this came as no real surprise. Now, Variety tells us that the flicks are just about ready to take over the world.

According to Variety, German distributor Universum Film has acquired all rights in the territory to the last two parts of the franchise. In addition, they’ve also been sold to Broadmedia in Japan and Edko Films in Hong Kong. The trade notes that the new installments have been sold in almost every territory around the globe. However, there’s no word on North American distribution yet; [REC]2 was distributed here by Magnolia Pictures in July, during which it made in the neighborhood of $27,000.

[REC] GENESIS and [REC] APOCALYPSE are now in pre-production. Paco Plaza will direct the former, while Baleguero will tackle the latter. The two teamed to direct the first two [REC] films. GENESIS is scheduled to hit next fall, with APOCALYPSE tentatively set for a fall 2012 bow.
