Spider-Man deals with the aftermath of Endgame in new Far From Home trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

He’s back, ladies and gentlemen! Yes, we were all about 1000% percent certain Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland) would be swinging back in at the end of AVENGERS: ENDGAME, but it made it no less rousing when he did. He got a chance to hug his mentor one last time before saying goodbye to him, and now he’s off on a trip to Europe with his school chums where more danger awaits him. Now that ENDGAME is here we’re finally getting a new look at SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, and it doesn't quite seem a sober drama about learning how to move on after coming back to life when you were just kitty litter, but hey, he deserves to have some fun after being dust in space for five years.

Now we can see why they waited so long between distributing trailers. This one goes heavy into spoilers from AVENGERS: ENDGAME and digs into what Peter is going through after losing Tony Stark/Iron Man, as well as the whole plot surrounding the idea that the time-jump plot of the movie had direct effects on everything that comes after. As Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tells Peter, there's some new dimensional shit going down, and it's up to Spider-Man to help out. Seriously, there's a multi-verse now!

There are some pretty cool new glimpses here, mostly at Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he takes on a mentorship role to Peter, who is very much trying to cope with the loss of his last one. How that dynamic will play out here will be interesting to see unfold, especially given the character's standing as a villain in the comics.

While there was a lot of speculation as to where FAR FROM HOME would fit on the timeline, as people still wanted to believe Spider-Man would stay dead come the end of ENDGAME, it's just clear now Marvel wanted to advertise the movie before the end of April and without giving anything away. But now the cards are off the table, and Marvel is wasting no time leaning into the aftermath of the latest AVENGERS movie on both Peter and the world as a whole, so if you thought this would be some ANT-MAN-level ease after everything we just saw, this may not be that.

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal and is in theaters July 2.
