Yesterday, The Wrap ran an intriguing document that purportedly contained internal information about Paramount’s planned projects. Those updates included movement on WORLD WAR Z, G.I. JOE 2, Kathryn Bigelow and JJ Abrams projects, and many others.
It also mentioned that the current draft for the latest live-action update of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES was “not great; looking for another writer to come on this quickly as its [sic] a huge Viacom priority“.
Well that didn’t take long — Deadline says that the studio already has writing team Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (IRON MAN, upcoming HIGHLANDER remake) working on the color-coded half-shell heroes, and receiving a handsome $1 million payday for it.
Deadline was also told that “The studio is looking at this as its next huge franchise, like TRANSFORMERS.” They want a draft by October so they can rope a director and get the movie into theaters for 2012. A priority, indeed.
Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael are getting yet another chance to crawl from irradiated ooze courtesy of Paramount and demolitionist Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company. The fearless amphibians were made famous in comic books, videogames, action figures, cartoon series, CG-animation and a trilogy of past films.
