New trailer and poster for 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves builds an epic fantasy landscape

Much has been said about the long-delayed 47 RONIN with the portrait of a troubled production painted all over the news canvas, but with that portion over and the film finally about to debut, I think the focus can finally rest on the film itself. Today, we have a look at a new full-length trailer and poster for the film, which highlights the visual feast of a fantasy samurai world starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rinko Kikuchi, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Thus far, I've been impressed with all I've seen for the Carl Rinsch directed film and this new trailer sells it better than anything we've seen yet.

Come on!:

The film has more than a few things in common with Zack Snyder's 300, right down to the stylized recreation of actual historical events. I can absolutely appreciate that angle and love a good fantasy spectacle, but only when it delivers on its full potential. For 47 RONIN, I think the key selling point will be the action quotient. It's obvious that the visual pieces are in place, but to really pull out a win, this has got to pull the right punches (or sword slashes) or it will suffer the plight of being a great-looking film with weak ass action. My fingers are crossed for a kick ass flick.

47 RONIN cuts into theaters on December 25, 2013.
