Last year's MANDY (pictured above) was one of the most enthusiastically received Nicolas Cage movies to be released in recent years, so it totally makes sense that Cage is going to keep working with production company SpectreVision. He has now signed on to star in the SpectreVision production THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE, which is an H.P. Lovecraft adaptation coming to us from Richard Stanley, director of HARDWARE and DUST DEVIL.

Published in 1927, Lovecraft's story is about

an unnamed narrator who pieces together the story of an area known by the locals as the "blasted heath" in the wild hills west of Arkham, Massachusetts. The narrator discovers that many years ago a meteorite crashed there, draining the life force from anything living nearby; vegetation grows large but tasteless, animals are driven mad and deformed into grotesque shapes, and the people go insane or die one by one.

In the film, Cage will be playing

Nathan Gardner, an affluent New Yorker and family man who has taken up residence on his father's old farm homestead. They are busy adapting to their new life when a meteorite crashes into their front yard. The mysterious aerolite seems to melt into the earth, infecting both the land and the properties of space-time with a strange, otherworldly color. To their horror, the Gardner family discover that this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches… including them.

Cage's co-stars include Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q'orianka Kilcher… Yes, that Tommy Chong. Could this film really offer us the sight of Cage and Chong sharing the screen?

This all sounds great to me. THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE begins filming in Portugal next month, and we'll keep you updated on its progress.
