Nicole Kidman to star in new HBO series from Big Little Lies creator

Although Nicole Kidman never actually went away, it feels as though we've been seeing much more of her, and it's been fantastic. Following the success of Big Little Lies, Kidman is set to reunite with series creator David E. Kelley for another HBO show which will be based upon Jean Hanff Korelitz's "You Should Have Shown." The upcoming limited series, titled The Undoing, will find Kidman starring as Grace Sachs, a successful therapist who is on the brink of publishing her first book when disaster strikes and her perfect life is turned upside down.

"We’re thrilled to continue our creative relationships with both Nicole and David," said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. "And can’t wait to bring this show to life." As for those disasters which will befall Grace Sachs, well, they involve "a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself." David E. Kelley will executive produce and write the series, which will likely contain the same number of episodes as Big Little Lies (seven) and the search is currently underway for a director to helm the series. "David has created another propulsive series with a fascinating, complicated female role at its center," said Nicole Kidman. "I’m excited and honored to continue collaborating with HBO and David E Kelley." To which Kelley added, "I loved this book. A character driven psychological thriller, I’m excited about the adaptation and thrilled to be able to do it with Nicole and HBO."

Nicole Kidman will also be returning for the second season of Big Little Lies, along with Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz. It's expected that the series will return in 2019 as it explores "the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode … the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom."
