Night Court revival series gets pilot order from NBC

Night Court, revival

All rise! It was announced late last year that a Night Court revival was in development and the project has taken another leap forward as NBC has given a pilot order for the new series.

The Night Court revival got off the ground thanks to The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch, who was a big fan of the original series. Rauch was originally only slated to serve as as an executive producer, but it was recently announced that she had decided to star in the new Night Court series as well. John Larroquette is slated to return as Dan Fielding and will be starring alongside Rauch. The new series will revolve around "unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone (Rauch), the daughter of the late Harry Stone, who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (Larroquette)." In a statement, Melissa Raunch said:

My intention was purely to be behind the camera on this project, but my plans quickly changed after falling in love with the incredible script from the brilliant mind of Dan Rubin I couldn’t be more thrilled to join forces with Dan, the immense talent that is John Larroquette, and the two powerhouse institutions of comedy that are NBC and Warner Bros. to bring Night Court back to television.

The original series spanned nine seasons from 1984 to 1992, but I must admit that I've never really watched the show, with the exception of tracking down the episodes Brent Spiner was in during my younger years as I simply had to consume anything that the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation was in.
